Harvesting

Canoe Forest Products Ltd.’s harvesting operations occur in the area that surrounds Shuswap Lake and Three Valley Lake. Trees are harvested under a Cutting Permit or Road Permit and are felled by feller-bunchers or hand fallers. Full length logs are then skidded or cable yarded to landings or roadside. The logs are mechanically processed and sorted into different log products (e.g. sawlogs, peelers, poles). A hydraulic log loader loads the sorted log product onto a logging truck for transport to the manufacturing facility that will make the best product.   In some cases, the load of logs is dumped into Shuswap Lake and towed to Canoe, where it is either dewatered and reloaded for another destination; or sent in to the plywood plant for peeling and further processing.
